India on top in global retail index: Study

The study, which surveyed 30 developing countries, took into account India's rapidly expanding economy, relaxation of FDI rules and a consumption boom as the key factors.

India has overtaken China to wrest the top position in the ease of doing business, a study said.

The study surveyed 30 developing countries to rank them for 2017 Global Retail Development Index (GRDI).

It took into account India's rapidly expanding economy, relaxation of FDI rules and a consumption boom as the key factors.

GRDI ranks countries for their global retail investment and, also, analyses 25 macroeconomic and retail-specific variables.

The GRDI, titled 'The Age of Focus', ranked China at second place.

The retail sector in India has been growing at an annual rate of 20 per cent.

This sector witnessed sales of over $1 trillion mark last year and is expected to double in size by 2020.
