‘Firms more prone to cyber attack, 60% software unregulated’

More than 50,300 cyber security attacks were observed in India during 2016, according to data by CERT-In.

Over 60 per cent of the software used by companies across India is not regulated and is more prone to cyber attacks such as phishing, website intrusions and defacements, virus and denial of service attacks, said a business practices firm.
 
More than 50,300 cyber security attacks were observed in India during 2016, according to data released recently by the Indian Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-In).
 
Organisations do secure their hardware but they do not pay attention to the software used, which could be unregulated, said Maya Ramachandran, Partner, Advisory Services Practice, EY. 
 
Last month, over 100 countries were hit by WannaCry ransomware in one of the most widespread cyber attacks in history.
