Industry needs more time to get ready for implementation of India's biggest indirect tax reform, as per Assocham.
Existing assesses, Rawat added, are yet to migrate to the GSTN portal due to several reasons; these include non-familiarity with IT tools as well as registration process.
"This raises huge question as to whether the IT infrastructure has been appropriately tested. It also raises questions as to whether this system can survive in the GST era when it had undergone maintenance during the second phase of migration when the traffic was restricted only to migration," PTI quoted Rawat as saying.
Assocham President Sandeep Jajodia said last month: “Implementing GST from July 1 will definitely be a challenge for the industry... there could be people making genuine mistakes. I would say the department should be softer in the first quarter or two because it is going to be a learning process.”
