Govt to present Budget on February 1

This is the last full-fledged Budget of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government as next Lok Sabha election is scheduled in May 2019.

Finance Minister Arun Jaitley will present Union Budget 2018 on February 1, a senior government  official told LiveMint. 
 
The practice of tabling Budget on February 1 was started by the government last year. 
 
The preponing of date was a departure from the practice of presenting it on the last working day of the month.  
 
This is the last full-fledged Budget of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government as next Lok Sabha election is scheduled in May 2019.
 
The winter session of Parliament will be truncated because of the Gujarat assembly election, “but there is no question of preponing the Budget and (it) will be presented on February 1,” official was quoted as saying.
 
The Budget-making exercise for the fiscal year 2018-19 has already begun. 
 
The Minisitry of Finance issued a circular in September, specifying the timelines for submission of information by various departments.
